The Pfizer UK Environmental, Health and Safety department manages and maintains the management system framework and provides support in the form of advice, guidance and training across a hugely diverse range of environmental, health and safety topics, to allow the business to achieve these aims.
As Environmental Undergraduate, you will naturally focus your efforts in promoting our environmental programmes and initiatives. You will gain knowledge of a wide range of environmental topics and activities, to support delivery of our environment and sustainability strategy to achieve Net Zero by 2040 and have the opportunity to promote our green programmes through participation in the hugely successful Pfizer Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Ambassador programme.

What can I achieve and what will I be accountable for whilst completing a placement at Pfizer?
After the necessary training and under close tutelage this role will provide valuable resource for the delivery and day to day activities described above. The role will involve interactions within commercial offices, research laboratories and drug production facilities across our main sites and facilities and will provide the role holder with valuable first-hand experience of the environment, health and safety management systems and programmes necessary to maintain business operations and the risk profiles in each of these workspaces.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The role is interesting and varied and will include:
Working within the UK environmental, health and safety management system, in particular with a view to preparing Pfizer for compliance with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 (ISO – international organization for standardisation).
Assisting the UK environmental, health and safety governance structure, through attendance at Environment, Health and Safety Committee meetings, conveying key information and documenting outcomes.
Participating in the UK Environment and Sustainability Steering Group, with active involvement in delivery of the steering groups communication strategy.
Co-chairing the UK Sustainability Team to support the fostering of ideas to enhance our environmental culture.
Involvement in and where appropriate opportunity to lead improvement projects in environmental management and reporting.
Providing hands-on practical advice, guidance and support to the business across a range of topics, such as Pfizer’s energy efficiency programmes, waste management, risk assessment, incident investigation.
Maintenance of environmental, health and safety information on the teams SharePoint site.
Data enquiry and review, including preparation of performance reports for site leaders and legislators (streamlined energy and carbon reporting and energy savings opportunities scheme), to satisfy legislative requirements and identify trends and continuous improvement opportunities.
Assistance with environmental, health and safety auditing, inspection and monitoring programmes.
Compiling promotional communications for topical environmental, health and safety items, for example supporting advance of our environment and sustainability strategy.
Participating in the Pfizer environmental, health and safety culture programme, to foster a ‘Generative’ Culture within Pfizer.

You will be expected to attend relevant conferences and seminars to represent Pfizer and disseminate relevant information as necessary.

When can I start?
Placements will start on 4 September 2023 and will run for 12 months.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Type of person we are looking for, in relation to ‘Skills’, ‘Knowledge’ and ‘Motivation’:
Completing placement as part of a University Degree or Gap Year.
Good verbal, written and presentation skills.
Good soft people skills, with an engaging personality.
Confidence to liaise with Pfizer personnel within different departments and different levels of seniority.
Ability to interpret data using Microsoft suite of tools to generate creative reports.
Enthusiastic and energetic approach with an interest in environmental, health and safety and business risk and resilience.
Who can apply?
Applicants must be completing placement as part of a degree course at a UK University, either through Year in Industry/Industrial Placement or Gap Year.
