The post will be dedicated to working on a specialist project looking at desk-based sources pertaining to shipwrecks and utilising legacy multibeam data to map shipwreck extents. The post will provide support to a Senior Marine Archaeologist.
The main duties of the post-holder will include
1. · Desk-based mapping in GIS of historic shipwrecks from legacy multibeam data holdings for the entire coast of N. Ireland for future integration into the Historic Environment Record of Northern Ireland (HERoNI) and DAERA's Marine Map Viewer.
2. Identification of shipwrecks which may contain potentially environmentally polluting material utilising desk-based sources.
3. Ensuring that managed tasks are completed within deadline and budget.
4. Liaising with relevant professional colleagues and attending meetings; and
5. Project results dissemination and report writing.
Essential Experience/Qualifications
(i) an honours degree in archaeology, or in a relevant subject such as geography, environmental or marine science.
(ii) GIS experience.
In addition, the Temporary Worker must have:
(iii) a Driving licence
Desired Experience/Qualifications
It would be beneficial if candidates can demonstrate 2 years post graduate experience of working with historical sources and GIS. This includes, but is not limited to:
· Experience of using the Historic Environment Record of Northern Ireland (HERoNI) for research purposes and working with the related catalogues and databases, and / or experience of cataloguing and archiving.
· Database and GIS experience; ability to digitise in GIS.
· Topographic data manipulation and interpretation experience; prior experience using multibeam data beneficial.
· Knowledge of marine & coastal heritage features.
Relevant or Equivalent Qualifications
