Description Grade: Equivalent to NICS Staff Officer Accountant Salary Range: £33,149 – £34,760 per annum Period of Appointment: 3 Years Hours of Work: 37.5 per week (we may consider flexible working arrangements for the right candidate) Responsible to: NIEL Development Manager Place of Work: NIEL Office, 89 Loopland Drive, Belfast and Homeworking Role summary We are offering an opportunity to contribute to the care of Northern Ireland’s most prized landscapes at an important time. The draft Environment Strategy for NI promises a Landscape Strategy for Northern Ireland by 2027, while other polices such as 30×30 – 30% of our land area under protection for nature by 2030 – have focussed attention on how we manage such lands for the good of nature and people. Suiting a professional with a broad range of communication, influencing and development skills, the role will operate at a strategic level to help the managers of the landscape areas to operate more collaboratively, sharing knowledge and best practice and developing their individual and collective capacity. The successful candidate will also engage with landscape professionals elsewhere and participate in best practice networks. They will meet with policy makers to advocate for these special areas and influence development and implementation of strategies including, but not confined to, those mentioned above. In practical terms the post will have an office based in Belfast but with capacity for home working and the post holder will engage regularly with the teams in our landscape areas over IT platforms and, of course, on occasion visit these beautiful and vibrant areas and organise events at which practitioners and partners can come together. Prior experience of landscape and/or environmental management may be valuable but is not essential – rather a passion for and interest in the future wellbeing of our landscapes and associated heritage.
