Schmidt Ocean Institute & Nat Geo Marine Research Opportunity

The Schmidt Ocean Institute (SOI) and the National Geographic Society have a new partnership to advance diversity and equity among ocean scientists and engineers. The partnership will provide seagoing opportunities to underrepresented, historically marginalized, and local scientists. The grants team is working to recruit ocean scientists and engineers who are not yet Nat Geo Explorers to apply for ship time aboard SOI's newly refitted state-of-the-art research vessel, the R/V Falkor (too). The program will focus on diverse early- and mid-career ocean scientists to develop a forward-thinking, inclusive, and equitable community of researchers.

National Geographic will be hosting an informational webinar for potential applicants on March 14th, 2023 at 3:00PM ET. If you are interested, please sign up, but we also encourage you if know of individuals whom you feel would benefit from this opportunity, please share this webinar sign-up form with them. The R/V Falkor (too) will be located on the west and south parts of South America for the next two years, but anyone who is interested in learning more is welcome to attend! The vessel expedition map indicates that a number of years will venture into Antarctic waters.

If you attend the webinar and subsequently pursue the opportunity, please reach out to UKPN (president@polarnetwork.org) if we can be of assistance in helping you develop a proposal.
