UKRI AI Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in AI for the Environment
The Intelligent Earth CDT brings together academics from key environmental science and AI departments across the University of Oxford with non-academic partners to train a new generation of PhD students to tackle some of the most pressing environmental issues using AI through five closely connected themes: i) Climate ii) Biodiversity iii) Natural hazards iv) Environmental solutions v) Core AI/ML research We offer up to 20 fully funded places in the CDT per year, supported by UKRI, Oxford and partners. By applying to the CDT, you are automatically considered for a funded place. We are committed to improving access to candidates from groups that are under-represented at Oxford. The CDT provides a unique interdisciplinary student experience: each project will be advised by both an environmental science supervisor and an AI supervisor, plus an advisor from one of our non-academic partners, who also serves as a secondment host. Intelligent Earth is a student-led programme: instead of applying to a pre-defined project, students will be matched with supervisors and partners throughout the first year of training and develop their project proposal with their personal supervisory team. Interested in finding out more? A virtual open day for prospective applicants will be held on 30 November 2023 from 9:30-12:30 GMT: • The programme will include an overview of the Intelligent Earth Centre for Doctoral training, its core themes, and the application process. • A questions & answers session will address any outstanding questions. • Potential applicants will be able to meet with PhD students with related research interests.
